CHARITY MATCH 6th April 2008 at The Coach Ground.
LEEDS UNITED LEGENDS v ROTHWELL ALL STARS
A team of assorted ex-Football League players took on a team of ex-Leeds United players in a charity game to raise money for two charities - the Aiden Healey Golf Buggy Fund and Ward 10 of the Leeds General Infirmary at The Coach Ground (and wearing the Robin Hood Athletic kit)!
A crowd of around 300 braved the snow showers to cheer on their old favourites, which included the (then) Leeds United Manager Gary McAllister and Leeds hero from the 60s and 70s Peter Lorimer.
Leeds United Legends had the greater share of possession, and put it to good use throughout the game scoring goal after goal. The speed may no longer be there, but the ball skills certainly were, much to the crowd's enjoyment. The Rothwell All Stars tried hard, but never really looked likely to win the match, They did score the best goal of the game, however, a blistering right foot crack from 20 yards that Peter Lorimer would have been proud of!
Both teams tired in the second half, and I suspect there was a sigh of relief from the players at the final whistle, with a final score of
